'My First Internship in Japanese Company' Elmo Juanara (from Indonesia)

Mr.Elmo Juanara (from Indonesia)

Master Student of Management of Business Development Course
Shizuoka University [Hamamatsu Campus]

Company: Somic Ishikawa
Department : Damper Department Business
Duration : 10 Days
Since I was young, I had aspired to come and study in Japan. For me, Japan is an inspiring country. A country with limited natural resources and unfriendly natural conditions, but capable of becoming a developed country in Asia and the world. Since studying the Japan Economic Bubble, I have been eager to experience working in a Japanese company. I finally decided to come to Japan last year, in an industrial city called Hamamatsu.

My wish to do internship in a Japanese company came true, namely in an automobile parts company called Somic Ishikawa. The company is headquartered in Minami-ku (south) and Kita-ku (north) of Hamamatsu city. Each office has different business specialties, I did an internship at the north office (Kita-ku, Miyakoda), in the Damper Department Business.

Damper is a product that is usually installed on a car seat so that the car seat movement is smoother and for safety purposes. Within 2 weeks during internship, every day, always get new experiences. This experience includes learning from the Sales Department, designing Damper products, printing prototypes, testing the results of the prototypes, to visiting the factory and seeing how the product is made.

What is also interesting is that we are holding the Cross Culture Games, a game designed to let us know about each other's culture. That international students are different from Japanese people, they have their own culture. So that by doing so we need to understand each other's culture, especially at work.

Another thing that interests me is that the people at the company are nice. I am a Muslim, I have to eat halal food and pray every afternoon. They were very cooperative in providing space for me to bring my own food from home and helping me prepare a place for my prayers during the day.

My first internship experience was very impressed, it made me want to experience various internships at other Japanese companies. And also that experience will help me in deciding to work for a Japanese company in the future.
