'My Internship experience' Ms. Indra Priyadarsini (India)

Indra Priyadarsini (Indian), Master's student , Shizuoka University, Department of Engineering, ABP program
Internship at Koito Manufacturing Ltd.
Duration: 2 weeks (Aug 20 – Aug 31, 2018)
Department: Research

Theme: Pedestrian Detection Algorithm using LiDAR

The two-week internship at Koito Manufacturing Ltd. was a memorable one. It gave me a great platform to learn the Japanese work culture. We were a total of 60 interns across several universities such as Gifu University, Nagoya University, Osaka University, etc. selected after a rigorous interview consisting of 4-5 panelists. I was initially worried as I was still working on improving my Japanese language skills. However, being an international student, my panel had a translator to help me out and I was able to manage quite well thanks to the trainings we received at the Shizuoka Career Development Program (SCDP).

I was delighted to know I made it through the selection process and was eager to learn. The internship theme assigned to me was also very closely related to my current research. The internship was at Kitsunegasaki, Shizuoka. The first day began with the orientation where we understood the company’s mission and their current areas of work. We also had factory tours which enabled us to have a closer look at the factory processes and ways of working. The following days, we worked under the guidance of our mentors in our respective departments. Our days were filled with trainings, experiments and group works. We got an opportunity to learn and work on recent technologies that Koito was working on. We also had a visit to the Koito’s Fuji plant. Overall it was a great opportunity to get to know the Japanese work culture and make new friends.
